MATH

Math

We have just finished a great inquiry regarding Area and Perimeter.  Students had deep conversations with their peers about the perimeter of shapes and the relationship perimeter has with area.  This was a very hands on task where students worked in small groups on a variety of investigations.  Students challenged one another’s math thinking and students had to reason and provide proof to represent their thinking.  We spent a bit of time on growth mindset, that some of the problems they would be investigating were going to be challenging.  We went back and watched a few of Jo Boalers video’s on growth mindset and we reminded ourselves that:

  • math learning is messy
  • we make mistakes, and that’s okay
  • sometimes math problems take time
  • it’s not about speed
  • when things are challenging, our brain is learning.

We are now moving towards mass and capacity!
