Classroom Update

MATH LEARNING

We completed the DREAMBOX Math Challenge March 31st. Our classroom came in 127th across the nation.  There were over 800 schools participating in the Dreambox challenge, our Grade3Take3  class did amazing!  I’m very proud of our Dreambox accomplishment!

In math we have begun a new inquiry involving how a house is built by examining floor plans.  Our world is 3D, so my goal is for students to identify the solid shapes around us, then unfold these solid shapes into our plane shapes. This process of unfolding solid shapes into “nets” is “spatial reasoning.”  As we explore theses nets we will develop strategies for finding perimeter and area, using geoboards and graph paper.  As a culminating task, students will plan a 2D clubhouse with a partner.

We are in the process of completing a few different tasks.

Our Google Research Project: Students are researching something of interest to them (inquiry).  Students created their own questions about a topic.  They then researched and will create a: slide show/power point or report on the specific topic following success criteria.

Book Reports using either Green Screen or Google Slides.

Blue Spruce: A library program with a selection of picture books of which we read together as a whole class, discuss, write a review and vote on.

Lastly, we have begun some EQAO writing tasks.

EQAO

Our EQAO dates have been announced:  May 23 – May 26th.

We will be spend 4 half days on the standardized test of READING, WRITING and MATH.

Please note:  Report card grades will not be affected by EQAO.
